Abstract     Coeliac disease is characterized by immunomediated damage to small bowel mucosa in genetically predisposed individuals. Spectrum of gluten sensitivity is wider than previously realized. Several forms of CD are now recognized (atypical, silent, latent, potencial). The prevalence is about 1%. We need to identify disease by screening with serological markers(antiendomisial antibody-EMA and antibody against tissue transglutaminase-tTG). Small intestinal biopsy is necessary for diagnosis.
