Abstract     The aim of this article is an overview of ultrasound of focal liver lesions. The significance and sonographic features of various liver lesions are described. Definitive characterization of liver mass is not possible on conventional ultrasound, so the situation has changed with advent of ultrasound contrast agents. This has been especially successful in the detection of small liver metastases. Definite diagnosis of liver lesions is biopsy, but when is it really necessary.
