Screening for diabetes: ◆ Recommended for high-risk subjects Prevention: ◆ Public education on healthy life style, weight control ◆ raised general awareness created by public awareness programmes Treatment: ◆ Step-by-step approach including life style modification, oral drug therapy (monotherapy or combined) and insulin or insulin analogue therapy (monotherapy or combined) Prevention of complications: ◆ Lipid lowering therapy ◆ Antihypertensive treatment ◆ Metabolic and weight control ◆ Annual review Economic aspects: ◆ The best quality of care decreases complication rates and reduces diabetes-related costs for the health care system.
