Abstract     The importance of dosage individualization in the modem therapeutics is increasing. Valid estimates of pharmacokinetic parameters are needed in the population and individual to perform dosage individualization. Classical and population pharmacokinetics offer in this respect two different approaches whose basic characteristics are outlined in this article. The classical approach rests on the basis of information obtained in rigorously planned clinical pharmacokinetic studies on a limited number of subjects. The population approach is based on concentration data collected loosely on a larger number of subjects as a part of their therapeutic program, and utilizes specific programming modeling tools.
