Abstract     Diabetes mellitus is found to be a risk factor for several infections. Urinary tract infections, soft tissue infections and some respiratory diseases are more common and sometimes more severe in diabetic patients. The most serious infections, found especially in diabetic patients are necrotizing fasciitis, rhinocerebral mucormycosis and otitis externa maligna. Staphylococcus aureus, group B streptococci, Klebsiella spp., Salmonella eneteritidis, and fungi are micro-organisms found more frequently in diabetic patients. Management of an infection in a diabetic patient may not differ from the management of other patients, although caution is recommended.
