Abstract		Traditional open cholecystectomy is described. Changes of the surgical attitude towards diagnosed bile duct stones are presented. Methods of exploration of the bile duct, intraoperative detection of stones and their removal are described. The risks and complication accompanying cholecystectomy and exploration of duct are discussed.
