Abstract | Background. Gallbladder stones are the most frequently found disease of the gastrointestinal tract. Laparoscopic surgery has become the method of choice for its treatment, we use the open method only in difficult cases. Methods. In 2002 at the department for abdominal surgery, Clinical center Ljubljana, we operated 291 patients with gallbladder stones. We analysed our results. Results. Most patients, 264 (91%), were operated laparoscopically. Postoperative complica tions were found in 7 (2,4%) patients: intraabdominal absces, postoperative bleeding, injury to the bile duct, obstructive jaundice and leasion of the small bowel. Two patients (0,7%) died after the operation, due to cardiorespiratory disease. Conclusions. Our results are similar to those published in articles from centers in the developed world. Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a safe method of treating gallbladder stone disease, which we use in more than 90% of our cases. | |
