Abstract     Although carcinoma of the gallbladder (GB) is a rare tumor , it is actually the most common malignancy of the biliary system and the fifth most common cancer of the gastrointestinal tract. The tumor has been reported in almost all age groups. The greatest incidence of gallbladder carcinoma is in persons older than 65 years. There is a striking difference in the incidence between the sexes. Females are affected five times as often as males. Cholelithiasis is found in the vast majority of gallbladders resected for carcinoma. Gallbladder cancer is found in 1, 7% of all cholecystectomy specimens.
