Abstract     The history and development of the osteosynthetic implants are briefly described in the following article. The author deliberately restricted himself to products, which are implanted in the body (and put aside many others i.e. external Fixator). The newest trends in development of the osteosynthetic implants and their components are described. Properties and composition of the biocompatible materials of which the implants are made is depicted (especially regarded to X-rays, CT, MRI). In special sub-chapters the implants for stabilisation of the spine and paediatric long bone fractures are delineated.
