Abstract		We analyzed the data, collected in The Cancer Registry of Slovenia about 2716 patients with invasive skin melanoma, diagnosed in Slovenia during the period from 1980 to 1999. We pointed out the melanoma patients' characteristics in Slovenia. According to chosen prognostic factors (gender. age, localization, invasion level and the highest vertical primary tumor thickness) we calculated the survival of patients in localized stage of disease. We confirmed that in Slovenia the incidence of melanoma is increasing. The melanoma is in Slovenia still diagnosed in more advanced stages than in more developed countries of Europe. The survival of melanoma patients in Slovenia has been improving in the analyzed period, nevertheless it has still been lower than in compared regions of Europe. Therefore there is a need for intensive primary and secundary melanoma prevention in Slovenia.
