Abstract		Background. In the developed countries an almost unwarranted increase of prescribing and intake of drugs can be observed. The incidence of drug eruptions is near to 10 %. Most drug eruptions affect the skin and are not life-threatening, but very serious cases also occur. The expenses for drugs are burdening the insurance companies and also the state budget. Causes of the uncritical application. The supplied information on drugs may be partially biased, an intensive and very expensive research is taking place, sponsoring of congresses and symposia by drug companies. the stresses oh modern life, psychopathic personalities, drug addicts. Mechanisms provoking side effects. Allergic mechanisms, non-allegic mechanisms, genetics of drug metabolism, incompatibility with further drugs. Chances for reducing drug eruptions. Divulging correct information, controlled clinical studies, a strict editorial policy by the editors of medical journals, epidemiological approach to the phenomenon of drug eruptions, pharmacogenetic studies. reacting to biased data, education in the sense of carrying out physical activities.
