Abstract     The oral vaccination of foxes has carried out in whole territory of Slovenia since 1995. The number of positive rabies cases has fallen from 31.93% (1089/3787) when oral vaccination were set up in 1995 to 0.59% (6/1195) in 1999. In 2000, 115 (7.62%) cases of rabies (115/1509) in different animal species were found. In 2001 135 positive rabies cases in 2153 examined animals (6.2%) were found, and in 2002 from 1495 inspected animals 15 of them (1%) were virus positive, 154 foxes and 1 marten. Persons with contacts with domestics or wild animals and baits for oral vaccination are exposed to infection with rabies virus. The number of post-exposure treated patients is between 1039 to 642 persons per year. Dynamics of post-exposure treatment of humans and laboratory confirmed rabid animals are near harmonious. The grade of risk of human infection is depended on exact diagnosis and collaboration between human and veterinary services in particular exchanges of information.
