Abstract     The incidence of human campylobacteriosis, caused mainly by c.-ampyooacrer jejuni in C. coli, is increasing worldwide. The main source of infection is food, particularly poultry meat. Additional problem is the increasing antibiotic resistance of human and food isolates, for example against fluoroquinolones, used in human and veterinary medicine. In Laboratories for Clinical Microbiology ZZV Nova Gorica and at the Chair for Food Microbiology, BF, Ljubljana, we are following the prevalence of C. jejuni and C. coli among clinical and food isolates from retail poultry meat by isolation, identification and typing of strains with classical microbiological and molecular methods (PCR-RFLP, PFGE). Ciprofloxacin and erythromycin resistance is determined by disc-diffusion test, E-test as well as with MAMA-PCR detection of mutations, responsible for antibiotic resistance. In this article the prevalence of C, jejuni and C. coli among 117 Slovene retail poultry meat and human clinical isolates in years 20012002 as well as their resistance against ciprofloxacin and erythromycin is presented.
