Abstract     Each year there are many accidents in establishments, schools and homes. Causes of these accidents vary, the human element being the primary cause. In worst cases the accidents can be the reason for permanent disabillity or even death. Poisoning represents another common threat to the health of its victims. Usually the worst can be avoided, if first aid is administered promptly and safely and effectively to the casualties. That is the reason why every member of society should possess and constantly refresh that kind of knowledge. The law of security and health in working places gives an important role in the concept and organizing of first aid in companies to the authorised physician (specialist in occupational medicine, traffic and sports). In his risk estimation the doctor must firstly recognize and assess the health hazards and subseqeuntly formulate the safety measures to erradicate them. He must then explain the hazards to the employees and show them how to administer first aid in the immediate working environment (e.g. in a mine, on the road).
