Abstract		Inflammation may spread by anatomical pathways from the infected dental pulp to the periodontium or from the diseased periodontium to the pulp. The type of treatment required depends to a large extent on the origin of the lesion and vitality of the tooth. In nonvital teeth, the management is begun with endodontic therapy; periodontal treatment is postponed for a few months, and it often turns out to be unnecessary. If the tooth is vital, periodontal treatment only is provided.
Summary		Vnetje se iz obolele pulpe po anatomskih poteh lahko razširi v parodoncij in podobno se vnetje iz parodoncija lahko razširi v pulpo. Poznavanje porekla vnetja je pomembno za način zdravljenja takšnih obolenj zoba. Pri tem je vitalnost zoba najpomembnejši podatek. Če je zob avitalen, najprej opravimo koreninsko zdravljenje, s parodontalnim čakamo nekaj mesecev, vendar to pogosto ni potrebno. Pri vitalnem zobu opravimo samo parodontalno zdravljenje.
