Abstract		The aim of the present work is the isolation and identification of micro- and submicrometer polyethylene and wear debris from periprosthetic tissue removed at revision surgeries. The release and accumulation of wear debris and consequent biologic reactions are emphasized as the main factors in the process of total hip replacement loosening.
