Abstract     Using screening tests in pregnancy in low-risk group we try to find those pregnant women who have a strong likelihood of Down syndrome or other aneuploidies in foetus. We offer diagnostic examinaton to expectant mother in high-risk group. Among screening tests we have in Slovenia measuring of nuchal translucency and determination of serum markers in the first trimester, and triple hormone test and routine ultrasound screening in the second trimester. Among diagnostic tests we can offer chorionic villi sampling between 11th and 14th week of pregnancy, early amniocentesis between 16th and 18th week, and cordocentesis and placentocentesis after the 20th week of pregnancy. All screening and diagnostic tests are voluntary, while tests whitout indication are paid privately. Insurence pays for one of screening tests between age of 35 to 37 and for diagnostic tests of pregnant women after a positive screening test and for high-risk expectant mothers. It is important to inform pregnant woman abaut risks of birth of a foetus with aneuploidies, about possibilities and rights of detecting, about cours and complications of procedures. The aim of screening is not just prevention of birth of foetus with aneuploidies or other anomaly, but offer a pregnant woman with positive diagnosis counsalling on found defect and on the course of further pregnancy.
