Abstract		The purpose of our investigation was to establish the suitability of rabbit hyperimmune serum for immunohistochemical demonstrations of parvoviral antigens in the intestines, and other tissues, of dogs with canine parvovirus. The study was carried out on the intestines and organs of 20 dogs, which had died of a clinically and histopathologically confirmed canine parvovirus. Histopatho logical and immunohistochemical examinations were performed on the intestines and other organs of these animals. For the immunohistochemical examination, polyclonal antibodies were used, which had been developed in rabbits against canine parvovirus Lesions, pathognomonic for of parvoviral enteritis, were found in 19 of the 20 dogs. Positive immunohistochemical reactions were established in the jejunum, ileum and in other examined organs: e.g. liver, kidney, spleen, thymus, lymph nodes and lung; but not in the myocardium. Positive immunohistochemical reactions were ascertained in the intestines of 18 of the 20 dogs and in the organs of 15 of the 17 dogs whose organs were examined. An immunohistochemical demonstration of a viral antigen enables a fast and highly reliable diagnosis of a parvoviral infection of a dog.
Summary		Namen naše raziskave je bil ugotoviti uporabnost kunčjega hiperimunega seruma proti parvovirusu psov za imunohistokemično demonstracijo antigena v različnih organih. Uporabili smo črevesje in organe 20 psov, ki so poginili zaradi klinično in patohistološko potrjene parvoviroze. Opravljeni sta bili patohistološka in imunohistokemična preiskava črevesja in organov. Med imunohistokemično preiskavo smo uporabili poliklonska protitelesa proti parvovirusu psov, ki smo jih pridobili z imunizacijo kuncev. Patognomonične patohistološke spremembe za parvovirozni enteritis smo ugotovili pri 19 pregledanih psih. Pozitivno imunohistokemično reakcijo smo našli v črevesju (tešče in vito črevo) 18 od 20 pregledanih psov in v organih (jetra, ledvice, vranica, priželjc, bezgavke, pljuča) 15 od 17 pregledanih psov. Imunohistokemično dokazovanje virusnega antigena je metoda, s katero hitro in z visoko stopnjo zanesljivosti postavimo diagnozo parvovirusne okužbe psov.
