Abstract		By distraction osteogenesis traumatic, septic or tumorous bone defects are treated. In skeletal trauma sequestrectomy and septic healing are proceeded by bone transport. The biologic basis of distraction osteogenesis, surgical techniques and most frequent complication are showed. The authors have personal experience with unilateral external fixator bone transport.
