Abstract		Fractures about the calcaneus and intraarticular calcaneal fractures with displacement of the fragments should be treated operatively. Complete reconstruction of the calcaneus is a demanding procedure because of the complex structure of the bone. The operation should involve correction of all deformities of the fractured calcaneal bone in order to ensure good functional end results. Internal fixation of fragments of the fractured calcaneus is either adaptive or stable. In the former, immobilization in a protective cast for four weeks is mandatory, while in patients undergoing stable fixation physical therapy is started immediately after the operation. In both cases, full weight-bearing is allowed 3 to 4 months postoperatively.
