Abstract     Background. Cancer of the cervix/vagina represents 6 per cent of all the malignancies among women in Slovenia and occupies fourth place on the scale of all cancers. Methods and results. In the period between 1975 and 1984 188 patients with invasive uterine cervix carcinoma were treated at the Gynaecology Department of Maribor Teaching Hospital. The average age of our patients was 53.2 years. The diagnosis was most often set during the first stage of disease. The patients were treated operatively (38.8 per cent ) by radiotherapy (45.2 per cent ) and by the combination of both. The total 5-year survival period amounts to 65.4 per cent . The best results were detected in stage I (91.5 per cent ), in stage II were 67.4 per cent , in stage III 21.3 per cent and in stage IV 0 per cent .
