Abstract     People spend great part of their life at work, where they are successful and content only if healthy and safe working environment is established. A few years ago began the realisation of project "Humanisation of working conditions in TEŠ". The results of this project answered questions about state of health of workers on working positions in TEŠ and enabled to arrange better working conditions. One of the goals of the project was also to gain recognition of insurance period taken into account with bonus for specific working positions at TEŠ. Within all the analyses that were made during the project, the working position of an independent machinist was specially analysed because it is specific for its variety of tasks. This working position also includes working on different locations. In spite of shorter effective working time, an independent machinist needs on account of his physiological and adaptation necessities a longer amount of time. At particular tasks working conditions are extremely unfavourable, but considering the technology will continue to be so for quite a while. Work from energetic point of view is reasonably hard. Heating of the surrounding is also problematic. The short term and intense heating of the surrounding can not be compensated and that is the reason why the cumulating of body heat results in hyperthermia at some working tasks, which makes working conditions exremely difficult. Measured evaporation of sweat also demonstrates the above stated. Physiologically the work is very hard and therefore a question weather older workers are capable of maintaining their working position is raised. The only available answer at the moment is that the elderly and handicapped workers should be transferred to different working positions. (Abstract truncated at 2000 characters).
