Abstract		Patient protection has long tradition in Sweden. Lex Maria from 1937 determined only the duty to report in the case when the patient became ill or hurt in the hospital. But the competence by the Lex Maria widened to pharmacology and dentistry and since 1997 also to research and laboratory work. ln 1998 in Sweden special patient's councils star their task to accelerate the communication between patient and medical personal as well as to enable the patients an easier access to the proper organ in the case of damage due to wrong treatment.
