Abstract     Acute infectious diarrhoea is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in infants and young children. The most common groups of viruses involved in enteric infections are rotaviruses (Reoviridae), noro and saporo virus (Caliciviridae), astrovirus (Astroviridae), enteric adenoviruses (Adenoviridae), and some others. Profuse watery diarrhea and vomiting in young children may lead to dehydration, acidosis and electrolyte disbalance. Natural infection with enteric viruses does not ensure complete immunity, and multiple infections in the first few years of life are common; however, immune responses to these infections reduce the freqency and severity of subsequent infection.
Summary     Akutna infekcijska driska je zelo pogost vzrok obolevnosti in umrljivosti dojenčkov in mlajših otrok. Najpogostejši povzročitelji črevesnih okužb so rotavirusi (lat. Reoviridae), noro- in saporovirusi (lat. Caliciviridae), astrovirus (lat. Astroviridae), enterični adenovirusi (lat. Adenoviridae) in drugi enterični virusi. Obilna vodena driska in bruhanje pri mlajšem otroku lahko vodita v izsušitev, acidozo in elektrolitsko neravnovesje. Naravna okužba z enteričnimi virusi ne vzpodbudi popolne imunosti in v prvih letih življenja so verjetne ponavljajoče okužbe, čeprav imunski odgovor zmanjša pogostost in težino nadaljnjih okužb.
