Abstract     Open fractures, closed fractures with soft tissue injuries, burns and politraumatized children are good indications for use of external fixation as temporary or definitive treatment. The advantages of external fixation are: minimal invasive procedure and short time for application. Possible complications are: pin tract infection, lower range of motion and sometimes lower psychical tolerability. The experience with external fixation in children's fractures from January 1997 to August 2003 is analyzed.
