Abstract		Irritation of the respiratory tract mucosa, in fections, foreign bodies or tumours in the respiratory tract are the most frequent causes of cough. Cough can also be one of the signs of a bacterial or viral in fection of the larynx. Such infections can cause respiratory distress, especially in small children, because of anatomic particularities of their upper airway. In the present paper, the causes of cough and two life-threatening laryngeal infections (epiglottitis and subglottic laryngitis) are presented.
Summary		Draženje sluznice dihal, okužbe, tujki ali tumorji v dihalih so pogosti vzroki kašlja. Kašelj pa je lahko tudi eden od bolezenskih znakov bakterijske ali virusne okužbe grla, ki predvsem pri otrocih zaradi anatomskih posebnosti njihovih zgornjih dihal pripelje do dihalne stiske. V prispevku so predstavljeni vzroki za kašelj in življenje ogrožajoči vneiji grla: vnetje poklopca in subglotisni laringitis.
