Abstract     In the River Drava plain three streams Struga, Studenčniea, and Stari rokav (the old riverbed of Drava) were examined for macrophytes and their ecological status. The distribution pattern and abundance of macrophytes revealed great diversity, 36 species as a whole. We determined 29 macrophyte species in the riverbed of Struga with Myriophyllum verticillatum as the most abundant. In Stari rokav we listed 27 macrophytes on the length of 2.5 km, with Elodea canadensis as a prevailing species. In Studenčnica lhe lowest number of species (23) was found. The eeological stetus reflected land use type and the condition of a riparian zone (integrity and type) that resulted in the stability of banks, properties of the riverbeds and biocenosis. With this assessment information on potential rcasons for disturbanees in ihese ecosystems was obtained. In the majority of the stretches the influence of agricultural activities was detected. They were categorised as „fair" to "poor" status. Two stretches only were classified as "good", and none of them as "very good" or "excellent".
