Abstract     By the serum-neutralization test (SNT) and the immunoenzyme test (ELISA) 205 samples of equine sera were analysed for the presence of antibodies for equine herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1). These two serologic methods were compared for their sensitivity and specificity on the basis of the results obrained. It has been found that by the ELISA a somewhat higher number of positive sera was determined than by the SN test, which indicates a higher sensitivity of the ELISA. By the ELISA it was also possible to examine equine sera without any thermic inactivation, i.e. without the removal of non-specific inhibitors, which was not the case with the SN test and which suggests that the ELISA is also a more specific method than the SN test in the diagnosis of EHV-1 infections
