Abstract     The effect of acidosis induced by the oral application of NH3Cl on the activity of glutamic acid dehydrogenase (GLD), beta-hydroxybutyric acid dehydrogenase (beta-OH-BD), isocitric acid dehydrogenase (ICD), and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) was studied in the mouse placenta by using histochemical methods. GLD, beta-OH-BD, and G-6-PD activities proved to be intensified in the cells of the basal part of the trophoblast, in the spongiotrophoblast and in the decidua. The activity of ICD did not differ from that in the control group. The findings recorded suggest an important role of the placenta in the regulation of the acid-base balance established by the same mechanisms as those observed in the kidney
