Abstract		The main problem in the management of osteoporosis is late diagnosis. The use of bone density measurements is of central importance for diagnosis, prognosis and assessment of treatment of patients with osteoporosis. The most useful method and golden standard is dual-energy X ray absorptiometry. The diagnosis of low bone mass is only the first step in the treatment of osteoporosis.
