Abstract     In the course of 1989 and 1990, examining the fish farming of Slavonia in the north-east part of Croatia, a region with diluvial and alluvial deposits of the Orljava river basin and the climate characterized as CfWbx after Kopen, the authors determined the biocenosis and biochemical effects of the entrance of the Orljava river water into the fish ponds. Analyzing water and silt samples, they have found that after a circular course of organic matter, the water going out of the fish pond, in relation to the river water entering it, contains no significant degree of pollution of potential harm to the irrigation of tributary agricultural areas. The recorded values of chemical and physical parameters could be understood as the usual cycles of acido-basic balance and the oxidation of organic matter within general biological autopurification
