Abstract     The vestibular system together with the visual and proprioceptive systems provides information for the maintenance of head and body posture, eye position and muscle tone. Electronystagmography (ENG) can be used to distinguish between peripheral and central vestibular disorders. Over a period of one year, ENG was performed in 253 patients with unilateral vestibular paresis and in 31 of these signs of central dysfunction were found. The most frequent sign was positional nystagmus, which occurred in 48.39% of the patients. Gaze evoked nystagmus was observed in 45.16% of the patients and the same percent of them had abnormal tracking test. Other ENG signs of central dysfunction were sporadic.
Summary     Vestibularni sistem v povezavi z vidom in proprioceptivnim sistemom uravnava ravnovesje glave in telesa, položaj in premikanje oči ter mišični tonus.
