Abstract     Fifteen patients with chronic or recurring dacryocystitis are presented. Endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (EDCR) was performed in all of the cases. Apart from dacryocystitis, 13 patients had persistent muco/pyocoella of the lacrimal sac. The etiology of muco/pyocoella was iatrogenic in 4 patients and unknown in the others. There were no perioperative complications in our series. There was one recurrence of mucocoella three months after surgery which was resolved by a repeat operation. This was the patient who was previously operated by external incision. Another patient developed stenosis of the dacryocystostoma resulting in several episodes of epiphora, which were treated with decongestants and a local corticosteroid spray. In conclusion, we consider EDCR to be the method of choice for the treatment of the said pathology, because it leaves no external scar and preserves the pumping mechanism of the ocular orbicular muscle. In addition, an active infection of the lacrimal system is not a contraindication for surgery. Our results are similar to those published in indexed literature.
