Abstract | The fluctuations of serum total lipids and total and free cholesterol levels during gravidity and the first two months of lactation, as well as their relationship to milk production and reproductive efficiency were investigated in a group of East-Friesian and Simmental cows. The serum total lipids level increased as the lactation progressed, and the correlation coefficients were the highest around the 30th day of lactation. The serum total cholesterol level fluctuated in a different manner in the two groups of cows, and the correlation coefficients were the highest around the 15th day of lactation. The serum free cholesterol levels was negatively correlated in both groups in the preparatum period. The applicability of the results in the interpretation of the metabolic constitution is discussed | |
