Abstract     To bacteriologically determine the presence of Campylobacter jejuni/coli in the meat of fattened chickens slaughtered in an industrial and in a small private slaughter-house, the swabs were taken from the trunk surface and pleurovisceral cavity of the killed chickens, placed in the Brucella-bouillon, and inoculated in four different selective nutrient media at 42 degrees C, using three modes to assure the necessary microaerobic cultivation conditions. The results have shown that the number of positive C. jejuni/coli varied from 10-54 per cent in the samples of the meat of industrially slaughtered chickens and from 6-23 per cent in the samples of the meat of chickens slaughtered in a small private slaughter-house. The most suitable medium proved to be the Campylobacter bloodless selective medium (CCDA-Preston) applied in microaerobic conditions along with methanol combustion
