Abstract		The extracts of the root and leaves of P. kitaibeliana Schott were analyzed in comparison with the official drug Primulae radix. It was revealed that the root of P. kitaibeliana had about four times stronger hemolytic activity than Primulae radix. Two main saponins that corresponded chromatographically to those of Primulae radix were isolated from the P. kitaibeliana root extract. Upon hydrolysis a mixture of aglycones was obtained. One of the sapogenins corresponded to the reference substance primulagenine A. Using tlc and authentic substances, glucose, galactose, rhamnose and glucuronic acid were identified in the sugar residue of the less polar saponin, while the second saponin posseses also xylose in the sugar chain
