Abstract     Diagnostics of psychological disturbances is based on the knowledge of normal psychological life and psychopathological changes as well as on the knowledge of biological and social influences on a determined person. Separate monitoring of psychological functions in real life is almost impossible. In fact, the whole psychosomatic reaction is an entirety. Based on these principles the Worl Health Organization classifies alcoholism as a disease and its withdrawal syndrome, delirium tremens and other alcoholic psychoses, as complications of this disease. Among these three clinical entities there is such a significant cause-consequence link that considerations of the etiology of this group of diseases cannot be separated from the analysis of the causes and consequences of alcoholism. Latest literature on this field is reviewed in this paper. Statistical data on the occurrence of alcoholic psychoses in the records of the University Department of Neurology, Psychiatry, Alcoholism and Other Dependencies of "Dr. M. Stojanović" University Hospital, Zagreb during a 10 year period are also presented. Theoretical considerations of psychiatric complications of alcoholism from pharmacodynamic, biologic and sociological aspects are also reviewed
