Abstract     Malaria and dengue fever are the major health problems in the tropical and subtropical areas today. More than 41% of world population is exposed to the risk of malaria and more than 2,5 billion of people to the risk of dengue. Because the international travel to the tropical areas is increasing we are faced with increasing number of imported tropical diseases. About 7000 cases of malaria and several hundreds of cases of dengue are imported into the Europe each year. The incidence of dengue fever among European travellers is certainly underestimated. The most important preventive measures for travellers on their travels which are described in the article are reducing mosquito bites, use of antimalarial drugs and early recognition of these infections on their return.
