Abstract		Nausea and vomiting may occur in many diseases. The exact pathophysiogical mechanism of the vomiting reflex is still incompletely understood. More frequent and practically important causes are emphasized. Short overview of the available antiemetic drugs should help in the decision in individual cases. Treatment is aimed to the sedation of chemoreceptor zone in the central nervous system or to the normalisation of the disturbed gastric motility. In addition to drug treatment some general measures in the management should not be neglected.
