Abstract     Objective: Recent studies have supported the fact that hypobaric therapy can be beneficial in oxygenation of the damage tissue, especially muscle tissue. The purpose of this study was to look at the effects of hypobaric therapy in treatment of patients with sclerodermy. Methods: During the years 2000 and 2001 eight patients with fibromyalgy and sclerodermy, age 42 to 48 yrs, was admitted to the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in General Hospital Maribor. Hypobaric therapy with the modulated vacuum massage was used. After treatment patients went through of series of examinations: clinical examination (ROM, claudication length), ultrasound and laboratory examination such as CPK, CRP and level of the lactate. Analysis of the lactate level was performed with the digital lactometer before and immediately after the 30 minutes of treatment. Results: Range of motion and claudication length increased significant after the hypobaric treatment (p < 0,005), while the lactate level was significant decreased after hypobaric treatment (p < 0,005). Ultrasound results did not show any statistical significant differences. Conclusions: Results supported the benefit of using hypobaric therapy for treatment of patients with sclerodermy.
