Abstract     Respiratory infections are common in adult population, so they are also common in pregnancy. Upper respiratory tract infections are usually caused by viruses. Common cold lasts a few days, however, acute bronchitis may last 14 - 21 days. Therapy is symptomatic. Longer illness might mean complications, caused by bacteria and antibiotics should be given. Infection of pulmonary parenchyma is a very serious disease, usually caused by bacteria. Antibiotic therapy is mandatory besides needed symptomatic management.
