Abstract     The Ljubljana Medical Faculty faces the same education challenges as other traditional medical schools. As a result curricular reform was initiated. After a thorough study of the literature, analysis of the current situation regarding medical education at the Ljubljana Medical Faculty and experiences gained during its work so far, the curricular committee proposed a set of suggestions to be used to accomplish integrated curricular reform. Suggestions are based on foreign experiences, especially those of traditional faculties faced with curricular reform. We took into consideration the principtes of modern education, as well as educational characteristics and options available at the Ljubljana Medical Faculty. The draft was prepared in the form of 14 proposals and an additional initiative. Each of the proposals has its own deadline for realisation. Deadlines were determined so the new programme would apply to first-year students in 2004/05. The proposal is also a good basis for the development of a medical curriculum comparable with medical schools across Europe.
