Abstract     For evidence-based practice it is necessary to have a tool for objective evaluation of prosthetic use and of the factors that influence the use of the prosthesis. The aim of the present study was to find whether haptic interface could be used as a tool for assessing upper extremity prosthetic use. Fourteen subjects after upper limb amputation were tested by haptic interface. The method was found to show differences between the amputated and the healthy side, the influence of age, and at certain tasks also the influence of the type of prosthesis the subject was wearing and the loss of the dominant hand. The preliminary results are promising, but more work has to be done for further evaluation of the method.
