Abstract     Acute coronary syndrome is a frequent disease sharing common pathologic mechanisms and various clinical presentations. Initially, it is divided into ST segment elevation and non-ST-segment elevation types due to different prognosis. Cardiac troponins are reliable markers of myocardial necro-, sis that enable us to distinguish between acute myocardial infarction and unstable angina. Eventually, Q-wave, non-Q-wave acute myocardial infarction or unstable angina develop. Thus, improved definition of acute coronary syndrome is very important for epidemiologic analysis and planning of health care strategy in our country.
