Abstract | A case of serious intoxication in a 12-month infant is presented. Her parents were included in the methadone maintenance programme already before the birth of the child. The girl' s father kept methadone solution in the baby milk bottle and his daughter drank some of it. She was admitted to the hospital 4 huors latter in the unconscious state, with narrow eyepupils, breathing difficulties and a high temperature because of lung inflammation. She was treated with naloxone. After the first dose she improved although repeated doses were necessary every 2-3 hours because of her respiratory problems. Then a continuous infusion of naloxon was started and 18 hours after admission the signs of intoxication disappeared. | |
