Abstract     Excessive alcohol consumption and abuse causes a subtantial number of health problems, from acute intoxation to a great range of damages as a consequence of a long - time alcohol abuse. Minor health disorders generally interact with weaker or stronger behavioral disorders. These complications eventually lead to the state of addiction to alcohol or alcoholism. Last year we analyzed the intoxicated patients who were treated in the emergency surgical ward. Using the retrospective analysis, choosing the patients previously diagnosed in medical records as intoxicated or as chronic alcoholics, we couldn't take into account all intoxicated patients who were treated. This time, the survey took into account a considerably higher number of patients, who were documented immediately after the treatment as intoxicated on the basis of anamnesis, clinical examination, the level of ethanol in blood and diagnosed with intoxication or as chronic alcoholic. This (proves) our hypothesis that simply dokumented diagnosis: intoxication or chronic alcoholism does not represent the real number of intoxicated patients who were treated.
