Abstract		Amputation of (a part of) a limb is one of the most dramatical surgical interventions and requires a multidisciplinary aproach. The main aims of major amputation are to save life, relieve pain and to restore optimal function of an organ. Patient s comprehension of amputation is a process that occurs at physical and mental levels. Amputation results in physical and functional loss, create unique psychological circumstances, alters or distorts body image. The article presents admitance of patient with amputation and activities of medical workers important for the right and good treatment. The role of nurse in this proces is complex and important.
