Abstract     The use of the information technology in Slovenian health care system is relatively on the lower level compared to EU. The pre-hospital services (e.g. pre-hospital emergency medical services) shows the same. The group of students of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences has developed the solution prototype that covers the call reception, sending the emergency crew on the field and tracking the crew status according to the needs of the University Medical Center Ljubljana Ambulance Service. One of the strategic objectives of this institution is the total coverage of dispatch process that is the brain of entire pre-hospital emergency medical service. Encouraged by the successful testing phase the Ambulance Service arranged with Computel d.o.o. for a free further development, testing and putting the stable program into the operations. Joint efforts enabled us to start using the Dispatch 2004 - the program that covers the following business process: scheduling the workforce (e.g. leaders, dispatchers, drivers...) and resources (e.g. vehicles), documenting the calls, sending crews on the field, tracking the crew task phase and location, as well as retrieving statistics and accounting. The program benefits are in its simplicity, short learning curve, automatic document distribution to all authorized workplaces, easy searching for data, quality of in-built data security mechanisms, assured access control and tracking the authorship on data changes.
