Abstract     The problem of late sequealae af childhood cancer and its treatment is increasing. Out of 663 former patients, followed at the outpatient clinic for late effects at the Oncological Institute, 66% have somatic sequelae, 17% severe. Endocrine disfunction have 63%, 50% thyroid (after 1 o years) and 22% gonadal disfunction. Half of former leukemia patients regardles of treatment mode has some disturbance of heart function. Subclinical impairment only of kidney function was found in survivors after nephroblastoma. Antracycline medication was found to impair the compensatory hypertrophy of the remaining kidney after nephrectomy. Neurological sequelae appeared in 70% of those cured for brain tumor, severe disability in 25%. Second tumors were fnund in 48 out of 1577 children in Cancer Registry of Slovenia 1969-2000. The risk of second tumors was calculated to be 0.06% after S vears, 3.35% after J0, 5.1 % after 15, 7.4% after 20 and 12.6% after 25 years. Most frequent (79%) is emotional disturbance, interferirig with social life as well as afirmation of intelectual ability of former patients. Group sessions seem to be useful remedy for the.se problems. Life long follow-up of childhood cancer survivors is necessary.
