Abstract		The pig thyroid gland tissue-structure has been investigated in newborn male piglets (8 cases), three weeks old male piglets (16 cases) and seven months old animals (6 cases), with particular regard to the amount of C-cells. The influence of melatonin on the thyroid gland was also examined. In animals treated with melatonin a lower amount of C-cells was stated as well as a lower thyroid gland activation index, in comparison with nontreated animals. The C-cells were stained with silver according to Grimelius and with immunohistochemical methods.
